Can Your Health Challenges Mess up Your Life and Space?
Mental, Emotional, Physical Wellness versus Mental, Emotional, Physical Illness is a positive way to talk about Mental Health Challenges. I also like to talk about the difference between mental health vs. emotional health vs. physical health because they all work together. Emotional Health is all about feelings, feeling balanced and whole, being happy and satisfied with life, and having a good mood. Mental Health is all about how your mind, thoughts and cognitive processes are working. Physical Health is all about how your body is operating and staying healthy and balanced.
The seperation of Mental, Emotional illness vs. Physical illness has always confused me. Why are brain (mental health/emotional issues and physical health issues split into two categories? Psychiatry which started in the 1800's stated that it was the "medical" treatment for "the mind". Why didn't medical treatment for the whole person, mind, body and spirit ensue? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychiatry. Isn't your brain and your emotional self part of your body? I would think so.
At some point in the early 1800's when Psychiatry, a new field started, anything to do with depression, psychosis, "odd or strange" behavior, personality traits, and communications started to fall under Psychiatry instead of going to the old family doctor. Many of these "odd or strange" behaviors may have been caused by Medical issues, childhood issues, trauma etc... but the person would be treated by a Mental Health Specialist or Psychiatrist versus a "regular doctor". That may be when stigma increased and terms like "nervous breakdown", "crazy" , "mental patient" and any other negative connotations about mental health challenges started growing and upsetting the actual care necessary for mental health. The other problem with the seperation between medical and mental health care is that many mental and emotional health challenges have an organic and or medical cause, and that often was overlooked by Psychiatrists who wanted to find an emotional and or personal weakness as the cause. Many people die from having a Psychiatric diagnosis take over their treatment, when in fact the mental and emotional health issues were from a physical disorder. The ideal situation if one is having mental/emotional health issues is to have a Psychiatrist and a Physical Health Practitioner on one team. Often there is NO communication between the two disciplines causing lengthy and unsuccessful results.
Most people, though, who suffer from emotional, mental and or physical health challenges also may become disorganized, and have difficulty with motivation to clean and keep things organized. Emotional illness comes from having the mental state disrupted. Emotional illness can be from having the physical state disrupted. Sometimes emotional, mental and physical disruption is happening all at once, and then your self and space will be tremendously affected. Finding a team approach to help you get back to WELLNESS may be helpful, and put you back on track, so to speak, and on the fast train to recovery. Looking at old memories of hurt and pain, facing them and talking to a Licensed Therapist, examing your diet, exercise, addressing physical health issues, staying on a good medical/mental health regimen, and pulling all of your support and resources together is essential to recovery.
Finding out the source of why there is an emotional factor (negative and harsh feelings) would be the first step in addressing any self or space imbalance. Once you find out the source then the treatment can be organized so you can get organized and resume a balanced self and space.
If you are experiencing any mental, emotional and or physical issues, and you realize you want or require help, contact your insurance carrier and or any community resources in your area to address these issues immediately. You may want to contact a mental health consultant and or coach for guidance and resource coordination. www.southocwellness.com can help you navigate yourself to to health management. Waiting to focus on your mental and medical health issues may only extend your suffering of your self and space.
People may be a little more complicated then what we actually realize. I like to think of people as Soul wrapped up in bodies which allow Soul to be productive and creative in the Physical World. Soul being a creative spark of light. I recognize Soul as always happy, untouched and indestructible.
Now lets say we have five bodies to keep Soul protected and recognizable in this life. We have the Physical, the Emotional, the Memory body (which holds all of our past experiences), our Mental and our Primitive body (which holds all of our ancestral knowledge), and all of these bodies are able to see, experience and help us live out our life.
All bodies can be moving together or working against each other. For instance if our Physical body gets broken or sick, we may not fulfill our ideas and thoughts which come out of our emotions or mind.
If we have a primitive notion to procreate but emotionally we don't connect to others that can also be a problem. If we have memories or past experiences that were traumatizing then it may impact our ability to concentrate.
When our bodies are in conflict our organization skills may be in conflict.
We are going in too many directions to stay focused on what we thought we wanted.
So therefore the outer may look and seem disorganized.
Your Primitive (ancient beliefs and experiences) with your Mind (focus and discipline), along with Past (memories and history), mixed with your emotions/desires and actions and physical functions must be aligned to move your dreams, ideas and goals forward. If the physical experiences are unpleasant at times, and when your dreams are not being fulfilled, just know, you will change, no matter what. Nothing in this world stays the same for very long. None of the five bodies stay the same, ever. You are always fluctuating and altering. Therefore your self and space is always changing and altering. So organization is really something that is always taking place. People and their lives flux constantly from organized to disorganized and visa versa. How long you stay in an organized or disorganized state depends on the alignment of your bodies.
One minute your mind and physical body are staying on track and your room is neat and organized, and the next minute emotion steps in, or a life-altering event, and your attention is now off of keeping organized, therefore creating a new life experience, and possible disorganization.
Having purely "great" experiences and a "great" environment will not take place 100% of the time. There is a flux in life of positive and negative experiences. The outer and physical experiences are temporary, but always coming to us ...positive or negative or just perceived positive or negative or neutral, life still happens, everyday. I like the neutral view. It just feels the most fuzzy and warm, since it does not have emotion involved. I also seem to get most of my work accomplished when I feel neutral. Too much happy and excitement and I can't focus and too much anger or sadness and I'm left with no motivation.
What does Soul gets out of the whole experience here in the physical world? Well it gets to create, and sometimes depending on the cooperation of the bodies, or lack of cooperation, it gets a mess or a masterpiece.
The concept of "world" is what you see, feel and experience, and staying in the now as much as possible is a real task. You want to stay focused and to stay focused you want to have down-time and resting periods. I dream and think and speak about a future, but I cannot be there. I can only stay in the now and that always grounds me. Writing a to do list or a goal list is the first step in manifesting your life experiences. Having the experiences turn out "successful" according to your values is the next step. Being true to your values is a real test of how happy you will be with what you choose to do and or be.
Is there an insurance policy for having our goals turn out the way we dream them up? No, but can we have a "successful" turn out of our dreams, ideas and goals? Yes. Most of the time we can fulfill our dreams, although the goals, dreams and ideas must be in line with what our truest desires are, or they may not be all that fulfilling after all. Ask yourself what is your emotional body really crying out for, fame, fortune, love, health, wealth, spiritual awakenings, wisdom, peace, joy or a combination of things. When you get straight on what your heart desires then you can be fulfilled with the outcome of the goals.
So the first step is to identify what your true desires really are. The second step is to see if your desires are in alignment with all your physical capabilities, emotions, history, mentality and your destiny. If you find out the desires are not lining up with your values then you may have to re-think the desire. With each step to aligning yourself you become more and more aware of who you are and what you want.
For some people the "practical" ideas and dreams they have are "I have to go back to work", and some thoughts may be "I want to be a better wife, husband, friend, or partner", or some ideas/goals may be to have a better house, job or level of success. But the dreams, ideas and goals I am talking about are your "real", "real" ones. For instance being a famous writer, a well known public speaker, a doctor, teacher, poet, inventor, athlete or a business person may be your "secret" dream goal. If you have a "secret" dream goal, keeping it a secret is probably the way it surely will not be fulfilled.
Get your mind set straight and your emotions in suit about what you really want, think of the number one thing you want in life. Decide what the "top" dream is, then everything about your world will change towards that goal. If you dream about being a famous scientist, designer or anything you can think of, it is possible, if you are physically, emotionally, and mentally able to accomplish that goal it is possible. It does not matter how old, poor or educated you are. Dreams that are dreamt well are dreams that become real. If you don’t see signs of achievement towards your dreams in a reasonable amount of time, re-evaluate whether the dream is aligned with your true talents (mind and physical gifts).
It is an interesting idea that some people think we have to create a "new" world or situation in life, in order to be safe, happy or protected. It is not necessary to create an entire "new world" in a day or even one year. Taking small steps to alter your life is the basis of change. Creating a world that is safe, economically sound and in harmony with your goals and dreams takes discipline, determination, planning and follow-through.
Thinking about your values are is important. Do you value family, fun, friends, money, work, health, sex, affection, children, religion? Find out what you value most in life and create goals that will keep you aligned with your values. For instance, if you dreamt of a home and then bought one, but did not consider the financial aspects, and responsibilities of keeping the home, you could lose your home. There are so many variables to affording a home that people do not consider. Some folks wake up everyday blindly going through it, with no thought about their ideals and dreams, losing sight of what makes them happy and they end up depressed and confined to their lives of misery. Crisis and mundane life situations do not happen by accident.
You can become new every moment, if your thoughts stay focused on your dreams and goals, and you keep a schedule, pointing you towards those dreams and goals. You can draw new experiences to you every day. Keeping ideas new and fresh...all the time...every day, and building on idea after idea, so your experience in life changes towards your dreams and goals is a great idea. Be fresh, come up with new ideas, solutions, projects and even if you do not follow through on each and every one, stay excited about life and change.
Know that if you are feeling sad or down and thinking thoughts that make you feel guilty or angry and negative that is what you will draw towards you. Holding onto old negative experiences is never a good idea. We can not be positive 100% of the time yet focusing on the positive is something we can always choose to do.
Will positive thinking or experiences insure future negative experiences won't occur? No, but having fear or emotion or any mental thought about negative aspects will alter our course. So stay positive, focused on the goal and follow-through with behavior that will get you to your dreams and goals.
Having a mentor or a coach is always a good idea. Sometimes just letting someone peek into your self and space and give you an objective opinion, opens up new doors and ideas within your self and space. Marla Stone
